Colleagues from A.F. Blakemore Logistics Hastings have fundraised more than £4,000 for a hospice in St Leonards-on-Sea by tackling a 16-mile walk.

On 11th March, 19 Blakemore Logistics employees completed a sponsored ‘Pier to Pier’ walk from Eastbourne to Hastings to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice.

Employees from the depot in Hastings set off on a foggy Saturday morning from Eastbourne pier and walked 16 miles to the pier at Hastings.

The journey took around five hours and the team raised £2,069. After receiving employee match funding worth £2,004 from A.F. Blakemore’s charitable trust, the Blakemore Foundation, the grand total raised for St Michael’s Hospice was £4,073.

The money raised will go towards helping St Michael’s Hospice provide palliative care for those with life limiting illnesses. The hospice provides help and support for families and also offers support after bereavement as well as many other services.

Logistics Administration Supervisor Jolene Witcomb said: “Despite the bad start in the morning the weather brightened up by midday and gave everyone a boost.

“Some of us suffered blisters and all of us ached afterwards, but we are all very proud of ourselves and glad we did it for such a worthy cause.

“A special thank you goes out to all of the people that sponsored us and helped to smash our fundraising target.”

A.F. Blakemore Community Affairs Officer Kate Senter commented: “I would like to congratulate the team for raising such an incredible amount for St Michael’s Hospice. It is great to be able to support this fundraising challenge with employee match funding from the Blakemore Foundation.”
