As the New Year starts, Kopparberg and Thatchers, two leading cider makers are exploring exciting new directions with refreshing lower ABV products, confirming there’s still plenty of room for brand extensions and beyond in this mature market.

Swedish fruit cider makers Kopparberg are shaking up the drinks scene by bringing out Balans Aqua Spritz, a brand-new alcohol-infused sparkling water with a hint of fruit taste, perfect for consumers wanting a refreshing alternative to their usual tipple. Light and naturally flavoured, Balans Aqua Spritz is available in two refreshing flavours, Mandarin and Lime, and comes packaged in a ready to drink 250ml can with less than 60 calories per time, naturally flavoured, vegan friendly and gluten free.

Rob Salvesen, Head of Marketing at Kopparberg, says: “People see social occasions where they might want to have a drink as an important part of their lives but often, drinks choices can be limiting. With Balans, we’re helping consumers say yes to embracing 2019.”

Meanwhile Thatchers Cider continues to make its mark in the apple cider market with the introduction of the all-new Thatchers Rosé Cider, a sweeter, lower abv cider. Made using a blend of naturally sweet, rosy-red dessert apples, including Pink Lady, Fuji and Gala, selected for their sweetness, aroma and quality Thatchers Rosé is a sparkling Somerset Cider available in a 4x440ml can and a 500ml flint bottle. The light, easy to carry 4x440ml can pack is sustainably packaged in a recyclable cardboard carry-pack.

Thatchers produced the market’s first rosé cider almost ten years ago. Fourth generation cidermaker Martin Thatcher brings the story up to date: “With the market moving on, this new cider comes with our longstanding Somerset family cidermaking heritage, but meets the needs of today’s cider consumer through taste, quality, provenance and sustainable packaging.”
