Imperial Tobacco is delighted to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of its Embassy brand. 1914 was a year full of historic news, not only was it the birth year of Embassy cigarettes it also saw the start of the First World War, the launch of Henry Ford’s T-Ford car and Charlie Chaplin’s film debut.

Embassy-No1-20s-3D-ModemWith its classic British design Embassy has been one of the most popular cigarette brands for generations of adult smokers.

In 1962 the brand was re-launched as Embassy Filter, a coupon brand, which took the market by storm; by 1968 Embassy Filter was the most popular cigarette in the UK, with a 24%* share of the market.

The current economic climate has seen down-trading become more prevalent, this trend is predicted to continue as consumers become increasingly price sensitive. Despite the challenging economic conditions around 1 of 4 of all packs of cigarettes purchased in stores today are from the premium priced sector. **

Rebecca Cottee, Brand Manager – Factory Manufactured Cigarettes, at Imperial Tobacco said: “As one of our most iconic brands Embassy is and continues to be an intrinsic part of Imperial Tobacco’s heritage.  For a brand like Embassy to survive for 100 years is a great achievement, particularly as the category has seen so many newcomers over the last 50 years.

She continued: “Premium priced cigarettes continue to be strong sellers within the category. It’s vital that independent retailers ensure constant availability of leading brands, such as Embassy, as many tobacco shoppers will leave a store and go elsewhere without making any purchase if their preferred brand is not available.”

Embassy is available to retailers in King Size 20s and 10s with an RRP of £9.28 and £4.83 respectively. Filter Size cigarettes are also available in packs of 20 and 10 and have an RRP of £9.26 and £4.80.
