Facing up works with ‘FUR’

When looking to better organise its beverage aisles, Supervalu’s Jewel-Osco stores in the USA turned to a gravity-feed display system that locks in products facing front and reduces the amount of labour needed to keep the shelves tidy.

Fully adjustable dividers and the flexibility to work with nearly any package format makes FUR an excellent choice for high-volume, high-velocity consumer goods.

Initial roll-out for energy drinks in Supervalu’s Jewel-Osco has brought a variety of benefits. Bob Diaz, Grocery Manager at the Jewel location in Franklin Park, Illinois, says the FUR system shelves improve the shopping experience.
“Customers don’t have to dig and it looks a little neater too. The product and rows stay straight and the only way it can get messed up is if someone puts a product back in the wrong spot,” he says. The shelves have also shaved off five to 10 minutes for the employees that straighten and pull product to the front.

Now, Sebastian Smith, New Business Development Director for DisplayPlan LPDG (Leggett & Platt Display Group) will be introducing FUR to the European market to help support retailer requirements for operational efficiencies and improved shopper experience.

FUR shelves utilise a four- to six-degree angle, keeping the product at the front of the shelf and boosting sales. The system keeps product at the front of the shelf without requiring staff to do that work, ensuring shoppers can see, and therefore buy the product on the shelf.   FUR shelves have also made top shelves more productive, ensuring top shelf merchandise is always at the front and reachable, even for shorter shoppers.  This ensures all inventory on the top is productive.

The FUR shelves come in standard post-and-panel system widths and depths. The divider system is infinitely adjustable across the width, giving great latitude to create and change planograms. “To change to a one litre product from a 330ml product, you just take the product out and push the divider over,” Smith says. “The maintenance is minimal, and shelves are easily re-planogrammed.”
