Hundreds of people struggling to make ends meet are now benefiting from a bumper donation to foodbanks in the Coventry area following the conclusion of Nisa’s annual trade show.
Nearly seven tons of food was donated by Nisa and their suppliers who were exhibiting at the NAEC in Stoneleigh on Tuesday and Wednesday last week.
Five different charities collected products from the show with some 25 volunteers attending to help collect food and take it away from the site in a fleet of eight vans.
Coventry Foodbank collected 5.5 tons of food, of which 4.5 tons went straight into stock and the remaining ton was redistributed to a variety of local agencies for immediate support to vulnerable people in the city.
Along with Coventry Foodbank; Leamington/Warwick Foodbank, Langar Aid, Anesis and Nuneaton Oasis all took quantities of the donated goods.
Hugh McNeill Project Manager said: “We would once again like to thank Nisa for their ongoing support. The Nisa Expo event has now become a regular part of our year and all our volunteers really look forward to it.
“By allowing us to collect the surplus food from Stoneleigh, we are able to work with various charities in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our city including those who are homeless, in temporary accommodation, families struggling to make ends meet, people with disabilities and mental health issues and single parents trying to cope with the demands of life.
“We are truly grateful to Nisa for allowing us to support and help them in this way.”
