Classic Spanish Seafood Brand Introduce Convenient Pouches

Surrounded on three sides by water, it is no surprise that Spain is famous for the quality and freshness of its fish, with traditional dishes handed down through the generations. Brindisa’s new Ortiz pouches offer retailers a convenient way to get a taste of this classic cuisine in the UK. Ortiz’s fried mackerel in escabeche, 215g and Ortiz Marmitako fishermen’s stew, 300g pouches are available now.

A taste of the Spanish coast
Renowned regional producer Conservas Ortiz has been supplying top quality tuna and anchovies since 1891, perfecting their technique for over 100 years and five generations. Preserving the art of fishing and the origin and freshness of the fish is paramount, resulting in a natural flavour and texture.

A traditional Basque recipe, marmitako translates as ‘from the pot’ – the pot being the fisherman’s supper. A hearty stew was the best way to fuel their fishing trips, made with bonito white tuna, potatoes, onion, tomato and green peppers.

No need to slave away building a complex fish stew, simply submerge the unopened pouch in an uncovered medium-sized saucepan of cold water and heat until boiling. Marmitako is the ultimate Spanish comfort food – serve in bowls with good bread.

When the catch is bountiful, preserving comes into its own – and the Spanish have honed this culinary skill. Whole mackerel is fried in a white wine vinegar and olive oil escabeche for the perfect tapas dish. Serve straight from the pouch, and keep the marinade sauce for dressing.

Classic Spanish dishes in minutes
Monika Linton, Chairman and Product Director at Brindisa, comments: “Like many Spanish dishes, Marmitako and escabeche are simplicity defined, with a focus on preserving and showcasing the fresh flavour of the fish. It’s brilliant to be able to offer these traditional dishes which have been passed down through generations, in a format which delivers quality convenience from a premium Spanish supplier.”
