Kite Packaging Group, the leading UK supplier of packaging, has grown the company in more ways than one in the last month, with several acquisitions that will improve services and create a number of job opportunities.

Rotherham-Grand-Opening

The most recent, a £3.5 million deal for Kite Packaging Midlands – based in Coventry, has meant that the branch will expand from 69,000 sq. ft to 179,000 sq. ft – more than doubling the site that is home to KES (Kite Environmental Solutions), Kite Online, Midlands Sales, Telesales, Accounts, IT and HR departments.

The expansion has meant Kite now own the address next door to its current operation, namely the Alliance Trading Estate, and is part of significant growth for the packaging company, where employee-owned Kite has generated shareholder investment that has been put back in to the business. Building work has already begun inside the units, which will be completely stripped back and refurbished.

The growth will also create a host of new job opportunities for the Midlands area, and already Kite Packaging has a recruitment drive underway, actively looking for staff to join its Telesales division. Kite Telesales began operation in February 2012 and is looking to double this team by January 2014.

For Kite Packaging Northern, a £1.5 million investment in a new site based in Rotherham means an expansion from 20,000 to 30,000 sq. ft. The building, built in July 2013, was revealed to the Kite team only a few days ago and has been fully fitted with office space, a staff canteen and a 4 door warehouse. The growth has also seen the truck fleet increased by 25% as well as a 25% increase in staff numbers.

Dedicated to being an environmentally responsible business the new building has motion-sensor lighting to help Kite meet their ISO 1400 targets and a stock holding facility that meets the new EU regulations and the latest generation of heat pump systems to provide air-conditioning.

Finally an £80,000 investment in a Wagon and Drag truck for the Kite Packaging Thames Valley branch was made in October. The truck will further improve the branch delivery services and is the first investment of which Kite hope to see a growing fleet of similar trucks, in each branch of its business, to meet the growing demand of its customers.

Holding 112m³ which equate to 11.5m³ more than an 18ft Artic and an impressive 54m³ more than an 18 tonne fixed bodied vehicle (typically used in the packaging industry), the truck allows for 60 pallets when double stacked and a removable trailer. This will improve efficiency in Kites warehouse operation, a need that has become more apparent with the companies accelerated growth.

Kite Packaging consists of three packaging businesses; a major accounts service, focusing on large users to provide expertise, design and distribution of bespoke packaging solutions, an online store serving SME businesses with 2,500 stock products available, including the Kite Mini Air, Kite’s latest product innovation, and an environmental compliance scheme – Kite Environmental Solutions, a bespoke service to help customers understand and comply with the Packaging Waste Regulations.
