Bestway Wholesale celebrated the achievements of its staff at a gala dinner on the 8th March at The Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square.
The event which saw awards presented to colleagues throughout the business from drivers to depot managers, saw both the company’s Liverpool depots collect the top gongs of Depot Manager and Depot of the Year with Bestway Liverpool’s general manger Naveed Anwar scooping the Depot Manager of the Year award while Batleys Liverpool was recognised as Depot of the Year.
The awards, which were revised this year to reward staff from the depot floor upwards, also saw three suppliers honoured for their contribution to the business over the past year; AB Inbev collected the Most Innovative Supplier of the Year while Nestle Confectionery was awarded the Most Improved Supplier. The most coveted supplier accolade, Supplier of the Year, was won by Coca-Cola European Partners.
In his address to the 400- strong audience, Zameer Choudrey CBE, Chief Executive of the Bestway Group said: “Bestway began life in a simple fashion with one convenience store in Earls Court. The group has grown to be an outstanding success story through hard work, commitment, brave decisions, strong leadership and mutually beneficial relationships. And these are the qualities, that will be on show tonight as we recognise and reward our colleagues in Bestway Wholesale for their achievements in 2017.
“We have some of the best talent in the wholesale sector working for us. Colleagues in head offices, in the field and in depots who day-in, day-out demonstrate their commitment to providing the best possible service to our customers. We are delighted to honour their achievements and recognise the superb work they do in meeting our customers’ needs.”
Winning depot of the year’s general manager, Eugene Mulroy, commented “I am absolutely thrilled to receive the Depot of the Year award on behalf of everyone at Batleys Liverpool. The past year has been challenging but the staff at my depot have been superb in seeking ways of operating for less while still maintaining the high standards they set for themselves. We have seen consistent year on year growth every quarter in difficult trading conditions and this is testament to the hard work the entire team put in in 2017.”
Gary Black of Coca Cola European Partners was equally delighted to be awarded the Supplier of the Year Award: “CCEP is thrilled to be awarded Supplier of the Year by Bestway. Soft drinks is a highly developed and competitive sector but our work with Bestway shows that there is still great headroom for growth. We will continue to work with Bestway – and all our other wholesaler partners – to ensure that we meet the evolving needs of consumers both in retail and catering through great availability, promotions and NPD.”
