Devon-based Lyme Bay Winery has established itself as one of the world’s most foremost and respected makers of English still wine, following a series of prestigious award successes judged by some of the industry’s most renowned wine experts.

Shoreline1-2In 2016, Lyme Bay wines have already amassed a total of one gold, three silver, and four bronze medals from the Sommelier Wine Awards, the Decanter World Wine Awards, and the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC).

The company’s signature still white wine, Shoreline, became the only English still, dry white wine to win a gold medal at the 2016 Sommelier Wine Awards, while Lyme Bay’s Bacchus secured silver medals at both the 2016 International Wine & Spirit Competition and the 2016 Decanter World Wine Awards; the most highly rated Bacchus at this event.

The winery’s Pinot Noir Rosé was one of only four English still rosé wines to win a medal at the IWSC, and was rated as the top English rosé at the Decanter awards, alongside two others.

These latest successes, building on the awards that the company’s wines achieved in 2015, have elevated Lyme Bay to become one of the most successful and critically acclaimed English wineries, despite only being in its second vintage.

While Lyme Bay is a relative newcomer compared with more established and larger commercial wineries, the quality of its produce has quickly been identified by the world-leading sommeliers and wine experts involved in each of the awards. In picking up the gold medal at the 2016 SWA, Shoreline was described by judges as a “wonderfully expressive…blend [that] caught the panel’s imagination”.
