After strong growth for both its wine and beer portfolios in 2013, Manchester- based importer Morgenrot has set its sights on further expansion after agreeing a distribution partnership with Bristol-based speciality Spanish food supplier Mevalco.
The mutually beneficial agreement will see the companies work hand in hand, out of a joint distribution centre at Unit D, 7A4, Victoria Road, Avonmouth Industrial Estate, Bristol. The arrangement will enable Morgenrot to directly supply burgeoning areas such as Bristol, Cardiff, Bath and Gloucester, while continuing to provide the first quality customer service and support it prides itself on.
Morgenrot Commercial Director John Critchley said: “With the south-west a thriving hub for the On-trade plus another route into London, it’s an area we have been looking at for a while. With our Spanish brands seeing incredible year-on-year growth, I am delighted and very excited to be working closely with Mevalco moving forward.”

Morgenrot was founded in 1970 and distributes a range of world beers, wines and spirits throughout the multiple and independent on and off trade channels. Its craft Alhambra brand from Granada, Spain, saw substantial investment in 2013 which resulted in treble digit growth.
Mevalco was set up in 2007 by vet turned importer David Menendez, who is based in Bristol, and Daniel Valle, who is based in Spain. With a love for food and an eye for business, David spotted a gap in the market while living in Bristol and began to bring in speciality cheeses, olives, oils, jamon, cured meats and other premium products from artisan producers in Spain. Mevalco now supplies a wide range of restaurants and deli shops throughout the south-west and wider UK, supplying several Michelin starred restaurants.
