highland-toffee.jpgThe people of Stenhousemuir were treated to a special edition of the famous Highland Toffee bars at the recent opening of a brand new local Asda store. 1000 toffee bars were distributed to visitors to the new store which were made especially for the event by local confectionery factory – The New McCowan’s (Scotland) Ltd. The artwork for the bars was drawn by children at a local primary school who were asked to create a design featuring the well-recognised Highland Cow branding.

As is often the case with promotional items, Asda’s marketing team needed the bars making at short notice and the packaging had to be branded for the unique occasion. McCowan’s turned to film packaging specialists National Flexible for help and were delighted when they had just the solution – a brand new digital printing process with no set up or origination costs.

“National Flexible were really helpful,” said Max Pellegrini – Process Development Technologist at McCowans. “I’d recommend them for any marketing or NPD project, their expertise and the resources they have access to are second to none,” he continued.

John Millars & Sons was founded in 1844 by John Millar, becoming one of Scotland’s principal independent manufacturers of branded sugar confectionery and producers of the well known ‘Pan Drops’. McCowans Ltd was founded in 1922 by Andrew McCowan and the two companies merged in December 2005. With production facilities at both Broxburn and Stenhousemuir it is best known for its flagship brand – Highland Toffee – as well as a number of 1980’s children’s favourites such as Wham bars.
