shaped-packs_reshootBPIF Cartons has formed a new marketing team that will focus on the promotion and marketing of folding cartons. The new Promotion and Marketing Group (PMG) has representation from the UK’s leading carton manufacturers as well as the support of a leading raw material supplier. The team has been formed to take over some of the former responsibilities of Pro Carton UK, which has been reorganised and now operates on a pan-European basis.

The benefits that cartons offer over other packaging materials will continue to be promoted through this team. In addition, members will have regular opportunities to view the latest equipment and services from key suppliers as well as attend the bi-annual carton industry conference and other networking events.

First on the committee’s agenda is a full review of ProCarton former activities as well as progressing a range of new ideas. It will then be agreed what will provide the best value for the industry and most interest to brand owners. The team feel it is important that there is a UK voice to ensure that the unmatched environmental qualities of cartons are clearly communicated, especially when alternative packaging formats are all making claims regarding their relative position.

Jon Clark, PMG’s Chairman, said, “The new team will focus on promoting the value of folding cartons to brand-owners, designers and other key groups. It will also plan events to ensure industry members have the opportunity to regularly get together. This is an exciting time for the carton sector particularly as the environment is at the forefront of many brand-owners’ minds. Made from natural resources, folding cartons provide a sustainable and economical alternative to many other packaging formats.”

The PMG will also work closely with Pro Carton-Europe and can draw on the experience of other BPIF Cartons members to help with specific projects. The new team will also help represent the interests of the carton sector to the government and associated agencies.

Robert Davison, Deputy Chairman, said: “Cartons are the preferred choice of packaging material by the majority of consumers. Many of the UK’s best known brands have used them for decades and new developments in print finishes & effects have ensured they offer brand owners and manufacturers a wide range of marketing opportunities. Folding cartons provide a strong retail shelf presence, are readily recyclable and enjoy an unmatched carbon footprint – no other packaging material can offer all these advantages. ”
