Wholesale Manager – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?
Every day is different. There are always new products, new customers and suppliers coming on board so the business is always evolving for the better. I also love that I can shape the future of the company.
WM – Who’s inspired you most in your career?
My grandfather has inspired me the most in my career. He came over here with nothing and worked 20 hour days to set up the business, and 60 years later we are still going strong and hopefully there will be a 4th generation coming into the business.
WM – If you were an item in a cash and carry, what would you be?
I would definitely be a KitKat – because I like to have a break.
WM – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?
I wouldn’t go to university, what I learnt here hasn’t had any effect on what I am doing now. I could have established myself four years earlier in the industry if I didn’t go.
WM – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?
I was at a trade show and a couple came on the stand to see our products. I offered him a drink and then I asked what his mother would like to drink. It turned out she was his wife – she did look a lot older!
WM – Who or what makes you laugh?
Larry David, he’s a comedy genius! I also like TV shows like Modern Family, American Office and The Big Bang Theory, they make me chuckle.
WM – Do you have any hidden talents?
I have a knack of sussing people out within minutes of meeting them.
WM – Who would be your favourite party guest?
That would definitely be Emma Watson, she’s a fantastic public speaker with a great attitude.
WM?- What is the greatest luxury in your life?
Being in control of my own destiny, being able to take time off work to spend days with my family to relax and have fun.
WM – What is your favourite guilty pleasure?
Watching the chick flicks I am made to watch… and enjoying them.
WM?- Do you have any secret ambitions?
I still hold onto the thought that maybe one day I might be called up to play for Manchester United, even at my age, I think I still have a few goals left in me.
WM?- What’s your dream holiday destination?
South America, Argentina and Brazil have always been somewhere I have wanted to visit.
WM?- What are your three favourite movies of all time?
Trains, Planes and Automobiles, The Thomas Crown Affair and Airplane. Absolute classics!
WM – What is your favourite book of all time?
Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer.
WM – What’s your favourite pastime?
I like going to concerts and the movies and of course going to watch Manchester’s finest at Old Trafford.
WM – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
I would spend my winnings on traveling to places that I have always wanted to visit and eating great food, then I would donate the rest to charity.
WM – What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into this industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?
To anybody coming into the industry I would say you need to develop strong relationships both inside and outside your organisation, try and find a mentor to help teach you about the industry and don’t be afraid to take risks.
