Entrepreneur Tom Bell, Managing Director of Skinny Brands, has been named Young Achiever of the Year in the Drinks Business Awards. The accolade comes after a hugely successful first year of trading, which included packaging the two millionth bottle of Skinny Lager, the acquisition of £1.5 million in funding from investors and the launch of an extensive marketing and event sponsorship campaign.

Launched in 2002, the Drinks Business Awards is an annual competition that celebrates the best in the drinks industry, hosted at the London Wine Fair, Olympia.

Tom Bell launched his business in 2015 aged just 26, and since then the brand has gone from strength to strength.

Noticing a huge gap in the market for a brand that specialised in low-calorie alcoholic drinks which didn’t compromise on taste, he joined forces with Gary Conway and formed Skinny Brands.

Together, they launched 4% ABV Skinny Lager at the end of 2016 – the beer has a crisp, clean taste, a refreshingly malty depth, a fraction of the residual sugar and carbohydrates of other brands and comes in at 89 calories per 330ml bottle.

The brand vision has always remained clear: Tom wants to encourage more innovation in the drinks industry. Skinny Brands provide products that tick all the boxes – they are not only low-calorie, but also vegan-friendly, gluten free and kosher certified whilst keeping their great taste. Consumers no longer have to pay the price in excess calories when they enjoy a drink.
