Sainsbury’s supermarket has tried something new itself: a CopriSystems loading bay canopy. Based at its Andover site, this medium sized store has between three and four deliveries a day. The canopy has been installed to provide environmental protection for goods and operatives during the unloading process.
Side wall mounted against the existing building, the canopy measures 10m long, 6m wide and 5m high. The canopy protects a scissor lift method of unloading as well as limiting wind, rain and dust problems during the unloading process. The side wall mounted canopy is ideal for a ‘drive through’ unloading process as each end of the tunnel effect canopy can be left open. If the ends are shut, an effective airlock can be created when the warehouse doors are opened.
The service area at the rear of the Andover supermarket is a large open plan area with an existing concrete base. As such, no ground works were required for the installation and the canopy was installed in a matter of days.
Manufactured from galvanised steel frames and with a pvc coated polyester fabric cover, all CopriSystems canopies are wind and snow load tested to British Standard BS 6399 and are available in heights of 4.3m and 5m, various standard widths and unlimited length.
Since the installation, the supermarket’s employees have been delighted with how it has improved the working environment. “We were recommended the CopriSystems canopy by one of our suppliers and I would now recommend them myself,” said Gary Mudge, Project Manager, Sainsbury’s.
