A Holywell convenience store that has served the community for 29 years has become part of the Go Local network of national stores, completing a refurbishment programme that has proved a hit with customers.

The 1,000 sq ft village-owned store run by Robert Cooper in Greenfield on the outskirts of Holywell in Flintshire features a dedicated alcohol sales area offering a wide range of beers, wines and spirits, grocery section and chilled food.

Robert, who took over the running of the store from his parents in May 2019, has worked hard installing new shelving, flooring, fridges and freezers and lighting throughout. Since March 2020, Robert has also used wholesalers Parfetts for stock supplies.

Commenting on the store’s new look and feel, Robert Cooper said: “When I took over the running of the store I wanted to make an impact and give all of our customers something fresh and different. The store has been an integral part of the Greenfield community for nearly 30 years, and while I wanted to maintain this strong relationship, I also wanted to introduce something new. 2020 has been a challenging year, which was the main reason for partnering with Parfetts and Go Local for this store. The store plays a vital role in supplying lots of local people with their everyday shopping needs.

“It was an easy choice to team up with Parfetts and Go Local and one that I am glad I made, especially with lockdown making it so difficult to get hold of stock this year. Parfetts has been very supportive, and getting hold of stock to meet our customers’ demands has not been an issue. The support is also first class with a team of contacts who are always on hand to help us operate more efficiently.”

Robert made the move to Parfetts in March as a long-standing customer of the Aintree depot. He decided to join Go Local because he valued his independence and ability to choose the best stock. Robert’s parents will still be involved in the day to day running of the store.

Parfetts is an employee-owned business, and its employees play a significant role in the company’s success and its retailers.

A focus on providing great value and service has led to record growth as more independent retailers choose Parfetts. The expansion of the wholesale network and investment in delivery services has attracted more retailers to the Go Local fascia, which has seen store numbers grow to over 500 stores nationwide.

Guy Swindell, retail director at Parfetts, said: “We’re working closely with Robert to ensure he is well equipped to meet the needs of his customers. The recently refurbished store looks great and has already proved to be a success with customers, old and new. Robert is an ambitious and hard-working retailer following his parents’ footsteps, who ran the shop so successfully for such a long time before him. We look forward to building on this success with him as he takes the store forward.”
