Nisa Local Mackworth has been honoured for its exceptional commitment to the community, having donated £3,000 to local charities through Co-op Wholesale’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) initiative.
The store has been named Community Champion for the Midlands at the Federation of Independent Retailers’ Autumn 2025 Awards.
The store, operated by the Dosanjh family, recently donated £2,000 to Mackworth Estate Community Association and £1,000 to Derby Women’s Centre, helping to fund projects that bring people together and support those most in need.
The £2,000 donation to Mackworth Estate Community Association will help fund two major festive events – a free community pantomime on 6th December and a Christmas meal on 21st December for local residents, including vulnerable families and those who use the charity’s food bank. The pantomime will host up to 150 attendees, while around 60 people are expected to benefit from the community meal.
Meanwhile, the £1,000 donation to Derby Women’s Centre was made possible through a joint initiative between MADL and Maltesers UK (Mars), which created a £10,000 national fund to support women’s charities across the UK. The donation will help the centre continue its vital work supporting women affected by issues such as domestic abuse and mental health challenges, through advice, counselling, and creative wellbeing sessions.
