Two lucky retailers are starting the new year in the best way possible, courtesy of Plan for Profit. And, thanks to their generosity, their customers will be benefitting too.

In the lead up to Christmas, Plan for Profit provided plenty of festive cheer courtesy of its Spin to Win competition which saw retailers unwrap a range of prizes, from daily instant wins and a grand prize of £5,000 to spend at their local Unitas member wholesale depot.

Hosted on the Plan for Profit website, retailers could spin the wheel every day between 1 and 24 December to win one of the six instant prizes, which included £20 and £50 Amazon vouchers, as well as being entered into the draw to win the main prize pot.

The winners, husband-and-wife retail duo Agnelo and Maria De Souza, who run Trinity Food and Wine in Basildon, were presented with their prize in January – a £5,000 spending spree at Dhamecha, their local Unitas wholesale depot.

“We’re so happy, it’s amazing and such a surprise to have won,” said Agnelo, as they received the prize at their store. “We entered the competition every day during December, and we were delighted to win a £20 voucher one day. To win the grand prize is just amazing, we’re over the moon!”

Rather than simply spending the money on stock and boost their bottom line, Agnelo and Maria instantly knew they wanted to use the prize to give something back to their local community.

“We will spend the prize money on stock for the store, and to support our customers and the community, we will offer cheaper prices on the products we buy. We will also support our local food banks by buying and donating products too.”

“We’re thrilled to present Agnelo and Maria with their prize,” said Claire Taylor, Digital Marketing Manager, Unitas, who visited the independent Basildon store. “They have been customers of Dhamecha for a long time and they entered the competition every single day, so it is fantastic to hand over their prize.

“To hear that they will be spending the money in a way that benefits their customers and those in the local area is so heartwarming and really reflects the essential role that independent retailers play at the very heart of their communities.”

The Spin to Win competition was run in 2025 for the first time and received more than 3,400 entries and a whopping 144 instant prizes won. “It’s been a huge success,” said Claire. “And, to run it at Christmas, it’s proved to be the perfect way for Unitas to give back to our members’ loyal retail customers.”
