SPAR Bowness is the new location of the town’s Post Office after the retirement of the Postmaster at the previous site in St Martin’s Parade.

The team at SPAR Bowness have moved quickly to accommodate the new Post Office counter in the store on Rayrigg Road with the full range of Post Office services retained in the relocation.

Services offered on the counter include letter and parcel handling, parcel and online order collections, business mail and shipping, and Evri, Amazon, DHL, and DPD services.

Personal banking (deposits and withdrawals), bill payments, car tax payments and travel money are also offered.

Launching the new counter at SPAR Bowness has also meant enhanced Post Office counter opening hours. Now open from 8am-6pm seven days a week, this is an additional 23-and-a-half hours of Post Office service every week.

A celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony was held at SPAR Bowness to mark the relocation and opening with the store team and partnership managers from the Post Office and James Hall & Co. Ltd, owners of SPAR Bowness.

Cake was also served to customers coming into store to utilise the new Post Office counter.

Jessica Sheppard, who was the new Post Office counter’s first customer, said: “I needed to pop in to quickly post some parcels and the service this morning was 10/10. I regularly visit the area and saw the opening signage for the Post Office at the SPAR when I was passing by.

“I did not know where the previous Post Office was in Bowness so the visibility of the new location at the SPAR plus the customer parking is excellent. The timing for me has been perfect.”

Rob Langford, Post Office Network Manager at James Hall & Co. Ltd, said: “This has been an excellent piece of partnership work. I am very pleased we have been able to move quickly to ensure continuity of service for customers in Bowness-on-Windermere who have a brand-new Post Office counter in their local SPAR store.

“It has meant there was only one hour of service lost between the Post Office closing at its location in St Martin’s Parade on Wednesday evening to the new counter opening on Thursday morning at SPAR Bowness.

“The new Post Office counter is just a three-minute walk away from the centre and we also have a better car parking arrangement at our SPAR store which we feel will be of benefit to customers.”

James Hall & Co. Ltd is a fifth-generation family business which serves a network of independent SPAR retailers and company-owned SPAR stores across Northern England six days a week from its base at Bowland View in Preston.
