Co-op Wholesale – the home of Nisa – has confirmed a five-year extension of its partnership with Ashok – business owner of Ujima Ltd and Ash Group – a long-established retail business with over 12 convenience stores across England and Scotland.
The business, which operates seven stores across the southeast of England including Greater London and five stores in Scotland covering Edinburgh, Peebles, Selkirk and Stirling, has been a Co-op Wholesale partner for 14 years and is proudly family-run.
As part of the new five-year deal, four stores – two existing and two future stores – will proudly showcase the new, modern Nisa fascias and instore digital media screens. As part for the new Nisa proposition, customers will enjoy an enhanced shopping experience and access to Co-op Brand products.
Additionally, Co-op Wholesale and Ashok are working together to develop one brand new store to help continue expanding its network of highly successful convenience stores.
For Ashok, the contract renewal enables it to continue to benefit from a wider package designed to help independent retailers grow including no standard membership fees, delivery fees or surcharges, alongside the opportunity to earn industry leading rebates.
The partnership also provides access to dedicated retail support, category expertise and sector insight from the wider Co-op Wholesale business, helping the multi-store retailer to continue to evolve its offer for local shoppers.
Shoppers will benefit from access to Co-op’s unrivalled, award-winning own-brand range, with more than 2,400 products available, supplied by Co-op Wholesale, across key categories including food-to-go, meal solutions and everyday essentials, alongside hundreds of innovative new products introduced throughout the year.
Ashok Pothugunta, Director at Ashok, said: “All our convenience stores are central to their local communities, which is why choosing the right long-term partner really matters. The Co-op Wholesale partnership has always provided excellent commercial value, retail expertise and access to the unrivalled Co-op Own-Brand, which helps us stand out to shoppers. We were thrilled to be able to continue the partnership with a five-year contract extension.
“We’re excited to unveil the new Nisa fascia on four of our stores. We truly believe this proposition will resonate with our customers and enhance their shopping experience.”
Andy Rutter, Head of Key Accounts at Co-op Wholesale, said: “Over the years, we have worked hard with Ashok to help build and strengthen their business. This five-year contract demonstrates that the partnership is truly adding value to their network of convenience stores. We’re excited and proud to continue working together, especially introducing our new Nisa proposition to stores across their network.”
