- Three-store initial roll-out in Scotland with retail partner One-O-One
- £1m investment supports Asda’s move into wholesale supply
- Asda Convenience fascia brings improved range and value for customers to more local communities
Asda has today announced the launch of ‘Asda Convenience’ – a new wholesale supply model for independent retailers in the convenience market.
The three-store trial will initially roll out in Scotland in partnership with independent operator One-O-One, testing how retailers can run stores under its new Asda Convenience fascia and bring the retailer’s value-led offer to more local communities.
The trial stores, located in Glasgow, will allow Asda to refine the model, assessing how to scale it more widely across the UK.
Asda Convenience is distinct from the retailer’s existing, wholly owned Asda Express estate and has been developed specifically to support wholesale partnerships.
Each store will stock around 3,500 products, including Asda own-label, fresh and chilled groceries, and food-to-go, all at Asda’s well-known value prices.
The trial marks a step towards launching a wholesale supply model, which will see the retailer work with established independent retailers to deliver an Asda-branded convenience offer.
Joseph Sutton, ASDA Express, Fuel & Wholesale Director, said: “Launching Asda Convenience is an important step in extending our reach and making Asda’s great value accessible to more customers in the way they want to shop today.
“By partnering with experienced independent retailers, we can combine our product range, pricing and supply chain strengths with their local expertise to create a truly compelling offer. This is just the beginning, and we see a real opportunity to scale this approach while building a broader wholesale business.”
Paul Stirling, Group Retail Director at One O One, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be the chosen convenience retail partner to launch the new Asda Convenience format and to play a key role in bringing this exciting proposition to customers across Scotland.
“With a long-established presence in communities throughout the Central Belt, we’ve built trusted local stores that understand the individual needs of the neighbourhoods they serve. Combining that local knowledge with Asda’s exceptional value, market-leading own-brand range and strong customer proposition creates a compelling convenience offer that gives shoppers greater choice than ever before. We’re excited to see the first stores open their doors and look forward to working closely with Asda as the new concept develops and the opportunity grows.”
Customers can expect Asda Convenience stores to deliver the same great value, quality products and service they expect from Asda’s existing estate.
Asda plans to use the initial store launches to develop the model, with the ambition to scale quickly if successful.
