SPAR Scotland has officially revealed the name of its brand-new Barista Bar mascot following an enthusiastic response to its nationwide naming competition, which attracted over 300 entries from across the country.
The standout suggestion came from Dumfries local Prentice, who cleverly dubbed the kilted character ‘Robert the Brews’.
To celebrate the win, Prentice visited SPAR Rosevale in Dumfries for a special meet and greet with the newly named mascot. Alongside the pride of naming the character, Prentice was awarded SPAR Scotland vouchers and a Barista Bar goodie bag.
Commenting on the winning idea, Prentice said:
“As soon as I saw the mascot dressed in a kilt and tammy hat, the name just clicked. ‘Robert the Brews’ felt like the perfect Scottish pun—honouring an iconic historical figure while nodding to a great cup of coffee. I’m thrilled SPAR loved it as much as I did!”
The competition was designed to involve local communities directly in welcoming the newest face of SPAR’s popular Barista Bar coffee experience.

“This competition was all about bringing our communities together and giving our customers the chance to put their own stamp on our newest team member. We received so many wonderful entries, but ‘Robert the Brews’ truly captured the fun, warm, and distinctly Scottish spirit of our new mascot. Prentice did a fantastic job, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”
Robert the Brews is now set to embark on a tour of stores and community events across Scotland. Customers are encouraged to follow SPAR Scotland on social media to keep track of his tour dates and grab a selfie with the nation’s newest coffee icon.
