Business finance provider has supported 316 wholesale companies across 335 deals, helping firms access capital for the stock, suppliers and trading cycles that keep the sector moving

Capify has provided almost £15 million in recorded funding to UK wholesale businesses, supporting companies across clothing, food and drink, building materials, chemicals, machinery and consumer goods.

The business finance provider has completed 335 direct wholesale funding deals for 316 companies, with funding ranging from smaller injections of working capital to substantial six-figure agreements.

With 19 years’ experience working with UK wholesalers, Capify understands the sector and moves quickly to fund opportunities or help manage cash flow cycles.

Examples of the support provided include £700,000 of funding for a Manchester-based clothing wholesaler, £400,000 for a global FMCG business that ships 10 million units annually, and £240,000 for a flooring wholesaler in Liverpool.

Capify also has deep knowledge of the different parts of the sector, having provided more than £1.2 million in funding for non-specialised food suppliers, £800,000 for fruit and vegetable wholesale, and £620,000 for wholesale of meat and meat products. Finance for drinks wholesalers has exceeded £470,000.

Trading cycles in the building industry can mean significant growth opportunities, sometimes followed by periods of cash flow pressure. Capify has helped in both scenarios, with funding for timber agents exceeding £650,000 and finance for other construction materials wholesalers topping £720,000.

Funding agreements vary from hundreds of thousands of pounds to finance major investments to smaller sums to smooth cash flow. The average agreement size is £44,000.

The wholesale sector has struggled in recent years, with rising costs, squeezed margins, and supply chain disruption. Digital transformation has required investment in machinery and systems to increase efficiency and reduce overheads.

Slow payments have made matters worse. The recent Capify Business Confidence Report found that 71% of SMEs are impacted by late payments, with more than a third saying payment delays were increasing.

Capify understands these pressures and works exclusively with small and medium-sized businesses. Finance ranges from £10,000 to £3 million, helping wholesalers keep shelves stocked as they invest in growth.
