One of Wales’ leading independent foodservice wholesalers is inspiring hundreds of children and adults to get active, build friendships, and develop valuable life skills, while supporting initiatives that promote physical and mental wellbeing.

Harlech Foodservice has backed almost 50 schemes across the past two years, assisting clubs, teams, community events, and individuals across Wales and the North West as part of its commitment to creating value beyond profit.

From grassroots football and rugby to fundraising challenges, the family-owned company has supported a diverse range of ventures, providing funding, equipment, resources, and hands-on assistance.

This has included training kits and equipment for clubs including Prestatyn Athletic Football Team, Pentre U15s, Aberystwyth Town, CPD Genod Llanystumdwy Women FC, and Wirral Phoenix FC, the largest independent women’s football club in Cheshire.

Harlech has also backed opportunities for younger members of the community, with six employees attending Clwb Rygbi Bangor’s Rugby Tag festival, where they helped deliver activities, awarded medals, and supplied water, fruit, and snacks to approximately 75 children.

Clwb Rygbi Bangor chairman Sean Kelly said: “This type of interaction is invaluable as it fosters links between the club and the community.

“The coaches are volunteers with jobs, so we are very grateful for the support from Harlech, because without it, we wouldn’t be able to host the festival at the club.”

Alongside its help for sporting organisations, Harlech has raised funds and awareness for charitable causes including Parkinson’s UK, Nightingale House Hospice and Maggie’s, demonstrating how its commitment to wellbeing extends beyond the pitch.

Harlech Foodservice’s Janette Jones experienced this first-hand when she took on the SheUltra challenge, raising more than £800 for Maggie’s.

The contract support manager said: “In 2011, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I was recently divorced, leaving me as a single mum with two children in school. It was certainly a challenging time as I went through 18 months of intensive treatment, whilst working when I could.

“I know how much I would have benefitted if there had been a Maggie’s centre available at that time, which is the reason I fully support the cause for others to benefit now.

“I am one of the lucky ones and still cancer-free after 15 years!

“It certainly was a worthwhile cause, and I will be doing it again next year with my two daughters.”

Harlech’s involvement also goes beyond financial sponsorship, with the company drawing on its foodservice expertise to provide practical support to sporting organisations and community events.

Warrington Football Club, for example, received water and beef striploin from Harlech’s wholesale range for its pre-season community dinner at Warrington Wolves Stadium, while Chester FC has benefited from White Rock Still Water as part of a key sponsorship package to help its matchday preparations.

There was also a donation of bacon and steaks to Byw’n Iach Arfon Tennis Club in Caernarfon, whilst Colwyn Jetski Club was gifted a hamper for inclusion in an event at Black Rock Sands.

Harlech managing director Mark Lawton said: “Assisting the clubs and events in the areas where we operate is incredibly important to us as a business that truly values the positive impact we can have in the community.

“Sport and exercise have so many benefits, including improving fitness and mental health, building friendships, and developing valuable skills such as teamwork and discipline.

“Seeing people of all ages getting involved and enjoying themselves is what makes being part of these initiatives so rewarding.”

Harlech Foodservice employs more than 300 full-time members of staff, offers in excess of 4,000 product lines, and distributes throughout the whole of Wales, the North West of England, and West Midlands.
