Leading Spanish food distributor, Mevalco, is unveiling a new premium range of Octopus designed for chefs who demand the very best.

The launch brings together two exceptional origins: the Royal Salcombe Octopus, landed off the South Devon coast, and Octopus from the rugged Cantabrian waters of Asturias, sourced exclusively through Mevalco’s trusted partner, El Viejo Pescador.

Both origins embody the very best of responsible fishing, traceability, and culinary excellence.

From Devon, chefs can now access:

  • Royal Salcombe Octopus Leg (300–330g, avg 300g), frozen, packed 15 units per case
  • Imperial Salcombe Octopus Leg (340–390g, avg 350g), frozen, packed 15 units per case

From Asturias comes MSC Cantabric Sea with 3* Great Taste Award rating reflecting the wild purity of the seas they are caught in and the expertise of artisan fishers who have perfected their craft over generations.

  • MSC Cantabric El Viejo Pescador (350g) chilled, 3 legs per-pack.
  • Cantabric El Viejo Pescador (350g) chilled, 4 legs per-pack

Octopus is one of the world’s most prized seafoods, loved for its distinctive flavour, delicate texture, and rich nutritional profile. Both Salcombe and Asturian varieties are gently cooked sous-vide at low temperatures – ensuring the perfect preparation while sealing in the natural essence of the sea. The resulting octopus’ juice is a gastronomic treasure in its own right, intensifying the flavour and offering chefs an additional creative dimension in the kitchen.

David Menéndez, Managing Director of Mevalco, comments:

“We are delighted to bring this extraordinary range of Octopus to market. In Devon, rising numbers of Octopus have created a unique opportunity to support local fishermen while helping safeguard marine balance. And in Asturias, we’re honouring a centuries-old maritime tradition through our partnership with El Viejo Pescador.

By uniting two coasts and two cultures, we’re offering chefs a product that embodies both sustainability and excellence.”
