Employee-owned wholesaler Parfetts has launched its first Go Local Extra store in London with retailer Posikan Sivakumar.

The 1,725 sq ft store on Plaistow Lane in Bromley, and the renewed site is already drawing steady footfall from passing trade and nearby residents.

The building had spent several years operating almost entirely as a post office after opening as a Londis convenience store. When Posikan took it on, he completed a full refit and was preparing to continue with the previous fascia. That plan changed when he learned that Parfetts was now making deliveries to a growing number of retailers in the area.

After reviewing Parfetts’ regular promotions, comprehensive product range, including a 200-strong own-label line, and a free next-day delivery service, he decided to join Go Local Extra before any signage was installed.

Since reopening, the store has expanded its product range, introduced stronger promotions, and refreshed its layout. These changes have improved margins and brought in new customers each day. A food-to-go section is also being created to meet the growing demand for quick meal solutions and to increase the store’s appeal to commuters and local families.

Retailer, Posikan said: “I knew of Parfetts and Go Local but did not realise they were reaching this part of London. Once I understood what they offered, it was an easy decision. The support from the team and the strength of the promotions have made a real difference. We can already see the benefit in customer feedback and in the performance of the store. I am looking forward to building on this strong start.”

As a 100% employee-owned company, Parfetts employees play a significant role in the success of the company and its retailers.

As more independent retailers choose Parfetts, the business has enjoyed record growth, thanks to its focus on great value and service from a team dedicated to the success of the retailers it supports.

The business has more than 30 new Go Local stores planned across the south coast and Greater London in the coming months, supported by its new Southampton depot.

Guy Swindell, joint managing director at Parfetts, said: “London is a key part of our southern growth strategy, and opening our first Go Local Extra store in Bromley in addition to increasing our deliveries to existing retailers on a daily basis shows the scale of our ambition. This opening marks an important step for us.

“Working with Posikan has been a real pleasure, and the transformation of the store shows his drive and attention to detail. The early response from the community speaks for itself. We are committed to supporting his plans for growth, and we are proud to see our first Go Local Extra store in London already making its mark.”

The new store strengthens the Go Local Extra estate as Parfetts continues to support independent retailers across the country with value-based promotions, reliable service and a growing national supply network.
