Welcome to the August issue of Wholesale Manager. Latest MealTrak results show the number of out-of-home eating occasions were 12% higher than the comparable period in 2021 on a 52 week/MAT basis. In the latest 12-week, the number of out-of-home eating occasions were 8% higher than in 2021. There were 786 million eating out of home occasions in the 12 w/e 13 June 2022.

New research from digital and data experts TWC has revealed that 42% of consumers are buying fewer treats in a bid to reduce their spending. Two-thirds of consumers are using at least one tactic to cut back on grocery spending, with trading down on product choice the next most used strategy. The TWC Trends research was conducted in June 2022 and showed that 53% of consumers agreed that they were having to reduce their spending to pay their bills; with younger consumers and those with children in the household most likely to be feeling the pinch.

The partnership between FareShare and Sysco’s operating companies in Great Britain, has enabled FareShare to provide enough surplus food to make almost two million meals to vulnerable families in 2021. Brakes and SSG have provided enough surplus food to provide more than eight million meals for vulnerable people since the partnership began in 2010. The relationship has grown significantly over time and, in the last year alone, saw the equivalent of around two million meals of surplus food supplied to those in most need, including low-income families, homeless shelters and community groups through a network of almost 3,000 charities.

Trading since 2003, Nasco now exports to over 65 countries worldwide. The company’s efforts have been recognised with it winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade for the fifth time. We’ve all done it: failed to use all our holiday for the year. According to BrightHR, 28% of UK employees cancelled holiday plans during 2020.
