Award-winning wholesaler JW Filshill’s Click & Collect ordering model has proved a hit with cash and carry customers.
Introduced last summer to increase efficiencies and provide a more convenient and accessible services for customers, Click & Collect led to significant sales increases for the Glasgow-based wholesaler during the key pre-Christmas trading period.
Sales through Click & Collect were up 5.75% in December compared to the same month in 2018 and up an impressive 50% compared with the previous month (November). Meanwhile, soft drinks sales through Click & Collect saw a 54.52% hike in December compared to the same period in 2018, largely due to good availability of Irn-Bru 1901.
Vaping sales also performed well through Click & Collect – up 54.52% in December compared to the same month in 2018.
Craig Brown, retail sales director at Glasgow-based Filshill, said: “We’re delighted with the performance of Click & Collect which has transformed our business for the digital age and allows customers to conduct their business the way they want to, when they want to.
“We did some research that told us overwhelmingly that our customers wanted the convenience of ordering online without having to leave their stores and a service that allowed them to collect their orders when it suited them.
“Retailers are really embracing technology and can see how it brings benefits to their business – in the case of Click & Collect, we do the hard work for them, meaning that they don’t have to spend time away from their stores searching for products and loading trolleys.”
The Click & Collect lounge at the depot at Hillington has also been well received and enables customers to sit down with a coffee while they wait for their orders.
Mark Love, owner of KeyStore in Denny, near Falkirk, described the Click & Collect service as a positive move by Filshill. “Christmas trading was similar to the previous year for us but Click & Collect has been a great idea – and, I’m sure, will mean more business for Filshill.
“Instead of me heading to the nearest cash and carry if I was short of stock, I now do Click & Collect and jump in my van – by the time I have driven through to Glasgow, it’s ready and within an hour I’m back at the shop. It’s a great service and a real benefit for us.”
