Barking-based family wholesaler reflects on two decades of growth as it invests in digital ordering, delivery capability and specialist world-food ranges
East N West Cash & Carry is marking 20 years in business in 2026, having grown from a family-run East London wholesaler into a trade supplier serving independent retailers, hospitality operators, caterers and export customers.
Founded in 2006 by brothers Jateen and Kavit Lakhani, the Barking-based business was established to give independent retailers access to competitive pricing, reliable supply and a more personal wholesale service.
Two decades on, East N West Cash & Carry operates from its Barking site, supplying more than 4,000 retail and hospitality customers with a range of around 12,000 lines. Its portfolio spans ambient grocery, soft drinks, confectionery, snacks, household essentials, health and beauty, catering supplies, foodservice products and specialist South Asian and world-food ranges.
The business has continued to invest in its delivery operation, digital ordering platform and mobile app, while retaining its cash and carry offer for customers who value the flexibility of buying in person. Around half of sales are now delivered wholesale, with cash and carry accounting for 40% and export representing 10%.
East N West Cash & Carry recorded turnover of £41.53m for the year to March 2026, up from £37.52m in March 2025.
Jateen Lakhani, co-founder of East N West Cash & Carry, said: “Reaching 20 years is an important milestone for us, but it is really a reflection of the relationships we have built with our customers, suppliers and team over that time.
“We started with a simple aim: to support independent businesses with dependable supply, competitive pricing and a level of service they could rely on. Although the market has changed significantly since 2006, those fundamentals remain just as important today.
“We have invested in our range, delivery network and digital capabilities to make ordering easier and more efficient for customers, while retaining the personal approach that comes with being a family-run business. We are proud of the progress made so far and look forward to building on it over the next chapter.”
East N West Cash & Carry is a member of The Wholesale Group, which supports the business with buying power, supplier partnerships, promotions, market insight and collaboration with other independent wholesalers.
As part of its anniversary year, the business is exploring ways to recognise the support of its customers, suppliers and employees, including the potential for future supplier and customer trade activity.
