A Welsh wholesaler is celebrating after being named Refrigerated Transport Operator of the Year at the TCS&D 2023 awards.
Castell Howell, a member of Caterforce, took home the prestigious award after the TCS&D judges praised its 35-year history and commitment to improvement and innovation, placing the customer front and central.
They also praised how Castell Howell champions regional produce, Welsh farmers and vegetable growers, collaborating with local authorities to get locally-grown vegetables on the menu which in turn supports the local economy and reduces food miles. It was also recognised for its impressive sustainability measures, including its fleet, and commitment to zero waste to landfill.

As part of its environmental commitment to doing the right thing, Castell Howell operated the first hybrid solution for rigid vehicles in the UK. It was also the first in the UK to trial the new Carrier Transicold next generation temperature-controlled trailer system, which has led to huge financial savings and improved trailer noise pollution.
From low-tech door handles for refrigerated bodies and fuel efficiency in cooling and heating systems to vehicle audit software, Castell Howell and its partners are constantly striving to be the leaders in innovation and have a well-known reputation in the industry for investing in systems to improve the operations for their drivers and sustainability.
The wholesaler was also shortlisted for the Livery of the Year and Environment and Sustainability awards.
