Hancocks in Bradford has postponed its birthday event following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The event was due to take place on Thursday 15th September. It has been moved to Thursday 22nd September.

The UK’s leading confectionery wholesaler is marking its 60th anniversary year with events across the country.

The depot on Euroway Industrial Estate in Bradford will share the milestone with an event for customers and suppliers.

Customers will have hundreds of offers to take advantage of as well as prize draws and giveaways. There will also be the opportunity to chat with the team and suppliers.

The event is sponsored by Haribo, Nestle, Mondelez and Frisia with representatives in store from Haribo, Nestle, Mars, Vimto and Shmoo.

Hancocks has been in Bradford for 41 years, opening its doors in 1981. Products from the store can be seen in the popular soap opera Emmerdale in the Farm Shop which has the Bonds Shaker Cups on display.

It now employs nine members of staff, one of them has been with the business for over 39 years. It supplies retailers across West Yorkshire and the surrounding areas with confectionery from around the world. It also offers a click and collect service for customers who prefer to shop online.

The wholesaler has its roots in the East Midlands and was founded by Ray and Liz Hancock who began wholesaling confectionery from their sweet shop in 1962.

In 1969 the second store opened in Sheffield with Stoke on Trent, Manchester and Birmingham opening shortly after. By 1986, Hancocks had seven stores across the UK.

Hancocks Bradford store manager Linda Haley said: “We made the decision to move the event following the sad news but we are looking forward to bringing the 60th anniversary event to Bradford a week later.

“We’ve been in the city for over 40 years, and over the last three years have seen significant growth, so it’s great for us to be able to share this with our customers and suppliers.

“We have a huge mix of customers come into the store and take advantage of the great offers and deals we have available. Among those customers are local independent confectionery businesses, and the makers of Emmerdale.”

Linda added: “This event is an opportunity for us to talk to retailers to show them what we have planned for the coming year, the offers available to them and the new confectionery lines we’ll be introducing soon.”

Hancocks Chief Operating Officer, Jonathan Summerley, said: “Reaching such a milestone anniversary is a testament to how our teams across the business work together, the service and products we’re able to supply to retailers, however large or small and the suppliers we work with on a daily basis.

“As with all retailers, we had to adapt and evolve over the years, more so in the last two years. We’ve invested heavily in our online offering, and this combined with the 14 depots across the UK, means we offer flexibility and the opportunity for retailers to shop in whatever way suits them.”

Hancocks is the UKs leading confectionery wholesaler with 14 nationwide cash and carry stores and an online channel www.hancocks.co.uk. Customers can shop online 24/7 with delivery to the door or click and collect options.

Hancocks is the one stop shop for confectionery for over 25,000 independent retailers and is part of the World of Sweets group.
