JJ Foodservice has won the FWD Gold Medal Award for Digital Innovation at the annual awards evening, which took place at Old Billingsgate last night.

The group was recognised for using its tech business, FOODit, to help restaurants launch their own websites in the early weeks of lockdown.

“Moving from a restaurant concept to an online takeaway or delivery is a significant transition and not an easy one to make in the middle of a global pandemic,” said Chief Technology Officer, Mick Dudley.

“Our team had the technology and know-how to help,” he added.

Operators were up and running in as little as 24-hours with their own independent, online ordering websites.

Judges commented: ‘With its fixed commission, FOODit helped hospitality customers operate profitably and sustainably online. It enabled restaurants to print their own QR codes to use on tables and menus so customers could order and pay online, contact free.’

Education and Support

In addition to offering the software, the team used its 33-years’ experience in the takeaway market to go the extra mile to ensure that restaurants were fully supported.

E-Guides were developed and shared by email and social media to help businesses to learn everything from marketing food online to using high-margin dishes that travel well.

A Navigating the Lockdown YouTube series was developed to highlight the businesses that were successfully making the transition.

By investing in promoting and developing FOODit, JJ offered the total support package for independent restaurants and takeaways at a critical time.
