Meals & More, the charity started by Brakes to end holiday hunger, has appointed industry stalwart Peter McGrath to lead the next phase of its development.
Peter has swapped his role as one of the founder Trustees of Meals & More for a more day-to-day management position as the charity seeks to deliver on its vision of ending holiday hunger.
Peter brings with him a unique perspective and a wealth of experience and knowledge of the issues surrounding child feeding, having worked in and with local councils, industry and charities.
From leading the school food service at Derbyshire County Council, then onto the Children’s Food Trust to senior positions within Taylor Shaw/Elior and LACA including a period as its Chair, Peter has always championed addressing child food poverty and the importance ensuring children are fed well. The role at Meals & More offers the opportunity to address some of these issues first hand.
McGrath said: “I feel very passionately about putting an end to holiday hunger, which is a large, hidden issue affecting the lives of millions of children in the UK. With Meals & More and the passion of its team, Trustees, supporters and delivery partners, we have the perfect mix to deliver on our ambition to create a movement to raise awareness and put an end holiday hunger.”
Kate Woodhouse, Chair of Meals & More, said: “Since becoming a charity last year, the Trustees recognised the need to appoint a strategic leader to help meet our goals. Over the past three years since we started this initiative, we’ve seen Peter’s passion stand out and this, coupled with his industry links, drive and determination mean that he is the perfect first Operations Director for the charity.
“We know how much work there is to do to put an end to holiday hunger, but this is a fantastic step in the right direction.”
