Working in partnership with food redistribution charity City Harvest London, total supply chain solutions provider Oakland International in just one month provided over 12,172 meals and helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 23 tonnes.
Oakland International’s contribution of 5.1 tonnes of food in June guaranteed surplus food, which might have otherwise gone to waste, was instead redistributed by City Harvest to provide nourishment for hundreds of thousands of individuals who could not obtain or afford healthy meals.
Last year Oakland International donated a total of 149,253 kg of food, which then provided 355,364 meals and averted 472,515 kg of greenhouse gas emissions.
Established in 1998 and celebrating their 25-year anniversary in 2023 Oakland International has a longstanding sustainability commitment with an environmental and social conscience that always acts ethically and fairly. They take their social responsibility very seriously and make sure they look after both their people and their surrounding communities. Their program of investment in solar, electric and hybrid technologies, as well as several other sustainable initiatives, are all embedded in their business practices, choices, growth strategy and planning.
Oakland Group Sustainability & ESG Manager, Doyin Adeleye, commented: “Oakland International is very proud of its partnership with City Harvest, London. We are pleased to see the positive impact that our support creates across communities and the environment.
“We look forward to deepening our collaboration with City Harvest, as our partnership is key to us achieving our Net Zero goals and our wider sustainability ambitions.”

City Harvest Food Sourcing Manager, Goldie Leoppky, said: “City Harvest is delighted to be working with Oakland International to redistribute their quality surplus food and ensure it quickly and safely gets to City Harvest’s network of community partners to feed people in need.
“Passionate about reducing wastage, sustainability and supporting the community, Oakland has made an incredible impact since we started working together. I’m excited to continue building the partnership to rescue more food and feed more people at a time when malnutrition is so high due to the rising cost of food. Our latest People Report, ‘Nourish to Flourish’ explains how life changing partnerships such as this are.”
City Harvest food charity rescues food, people, and the planet by rescuing surplus food and feeding, for free, over 120,000 people a week. High malnutrition and mental health is at an all-time low in the UK due to the rising cost of food.
