Mondelez, meanwhile, has announced it will reduce the packaging by 15% across its large Cadbury share bags, contributing to the company’s global target to eliminate 65,000 tonnes of packaging by the end of 2020. Purina is trialling a first-of-its-kind recyclable flexible packaging for wet pet food in the Netherlands. The pouch has managed to simplify plastic structures to make them recyclable, without compromising on the functionalities of food-grade packaging.

JTI has announced two new schemes designed to change consumer behaviour around cigarette butt littering. The #IGiveAButt campaign and partnership with Keep Wales Tidy look to tackle this problem head on, encouraging adult smokers to take more responsibility when it comes to discarding their cigarette butts.

The UK’s leading foodservice supplier, Brakes, has joined Marcus Rashford’s Child Food Poverty Task Force. Brakes will join Marcus and some of Britain’s leading retailers and food manufacturers, to endorse three policy recommendations from the Government’s National Food Strategy, with the objective of seeing sufficient funds allocated to implementing them – a unifying step to identifying a long- term solution to child food poverty in the UK.

In the wake of new government’ measures designed to reduce the rate of Coronavirus infections – alongside a return to full lockdown in certain regions – Dawood Pervez, MD of Bestway Wholesale, has called on suppliers to work with wholesalers and retailers to ensure fair distribution of stock to all.
