Welcome to our ‘The Warehouse’ section. Following on from the front page lead story in this issue about Honeywell’s new vehicle-mounted computers, in these pages we continue the warehouse theme with the latest news and customer case studies from leading warehousing and logistics equipment and services suppliers, to help you get the best performance out of your warehouse operations this spring and beyond.

chazThe warehouse is arguably the most important part of a cash ‘n’ carry or a delivered wholesale operation, besides the management office and purchasing. After the long winter months it could probably do with a good clean up. Not only that, if you don’t keep the warehouse well equipped with up to date and properly maintained equipment all year round, performance, productivity and safety will suffer, so this is as good a time as any to sort it out.

Besides the people working there, the most important other things moving about in a cash and carry depot or delivered wholesaler’s warehouse are of course the forklift trucks, which tend to move at great speed, carrying loaded pallets, in order to achieve maximum productivity. Safety is a key concern for these machines and their operators, and Linde Material Handling has won the safety award for its R14-R20 Reach Truck range in this year’s Fork Lift Truck Association Awards for Excellence. The new generation range, launched by Linde last year, received the award for its outstanding assortment of innovative safety solutions, which have revolutionised operator safety, comfort and productivity.

Also in these pages, there’s the story about Westbrook Industrial, the Warrington-based labeling and safety solutions group whose trading divisions include ASG Services and Warehouse Partners, and which has begun a three-year investment and expansion project that will see the company double in size as it ramps up to meet customer needs for comprehensive and top quality warehouse safety solutions.

Cash & carries and delivered wholesalers’ warehouses vary in size, of course. As their businesses grow, so does their need for storage. There are a number of B2B catalogue companies offering shelving and racking systems for small and growing businesses, yet few have taken full advantage of the need to offer a great online experience. New start up Tufferman addresses that issue, and provides a full range of economical shelving and racking solutions for smaller businesses.
