Wing Yip, the UK’s leading Oriental Grocer, has added a sustainable fully biodegradable and compostable range of bowls, cups, plates, cutlery and takeaway boxes, to its in-store and online product offering.
Produced by Green Earth, the products have been developed as an alternative to disposable, single-use items made of plastic, thermocol or paper.
The ‘paper-style’ bowls, cups and plates are created using ‘bagasse’ – a dry, pulpy, fibrous residue that is produced as a by-product of the sugar cane refining process. The cutlery and lids for the cups are made from 70% non-GMO corn and 30% talc. All components of the range are suitable for handling both hot and cold contents, and are microwaveable, freezer safe and oil resistant.
The introduction of the Green Earth range across all Wing Yip Superstores and online shop, is part of the company’s ongoing sustainability plan, and demonstrates its commitment to the reduction of waste across the grocery, foodservice and hospitality sectors.
Wing Yip Director, Ennevor Yap, commented: “Central to our CSR strategy is a focus on introducing an increased number of sustainable products to our shelves, that help to reduce carbon emissions and encourage recycling. The Green Earth range offers a convenient and robust alternative to plastic for retailers, operators who are currently undertaking a delivery service as well as consumers.
“We are fully committed to making sustainable items increasingly accessible to our customer base, and are supporting product innovation that can help lead to a step-change in our own supply chains and within the wider industry.”
The Green Earth range is available across all Wing Yip Superstores – including Birmingham, Manchester, Cricklewood and Croydon – and via delivery on the online shop (www.wingyip.com). You can view the full Green Earth range here.
