One of Italy’s largest retailers, grocery store operator SISA, has chosen electronic display specialist ZBD to provide in-store point of purchase labelling at its largest outlet near Milan. On successful evaluation of the pathway project to overhaul SISA’s fresh fruit and vegetable labelling in accordance with Italian regulations, ZBD and its Italian partner are planning an extensive roll-out of the system across SISA’s north western region.
The deal, brokered last month by ZBD’s VISION international partner, Milan-based Proxima Centauri, answers SISA’s demand for an automated, customer-friendly solution to comply with Italy’s food labelling laws. These require stores to display point of purchase data about fresh produce’s provenance, such as its quality classification and origin, as well as usual product code and pricing information.
By teaming ZBD’s zero-power LCD displays with its own “GDOshop” back office-to-POS software, already in use at SISA stores, Proxima was able to quickly deliver a flexible, effective system customised to SISA’s needs that provides an alternative to the cumbersome manual processes of traditional paper labelling and product tracking.
“The agreement with SISA is a breakthrough in the Italian retail sector,” commented David Rogers, ZBD group sales and marketing director. “Together with recent successes in other European and North American markets it demonstrates the international applications of ZBD’s electronic labelling solutions and their ability to deliver tangible business benefits in a wide range of retail environments.”
SISA Nord Ovest (North West), the first SISA region to deploy ZBD’s electronic point of purchase (EPOP) solutions, serves the Lombardia, Piemonte and Liguria regions of Italy through an estate of more than 230 stores. In all SISA operates about 1,000 stores across Italy under a model similar to a traditional co-operative, with stores in shared ownership between SISA and the store manager.
ZBD is a leader in the design and supply of point of purchase electronic displays and associated software solutions for the retail industry. Through contemporary design, innovative technology and sound engineering, ZBD’s product portfolio offers an environmentally-friendly, 21st century alternative to the traditional paper labelling usually employed in the retail environment.
