carl-reh.jpgAhead of its summer 2008 target, brand icon Black Tower, Germany’s most widely exported wine brand, and one of the world’s most powerful and enduring wine brands has smashed through its goal of one million 9lt annual case sales, worldwide. Produced by family winery Reh Kendermann, managing director Nik Schritz explains the reason for the brand’s ever increasing popularity: “Above all else, Black Tower’s success is due to the award winning, premium quality of the wine, produced using modern winemaking skills.

This, coupled with innovation has enabled Black Tower to attract a new generation of younger consumers around the world, and plays a key role in developing contemporary wine styles and packaging that appeal to consumers and buyers. We would like to thank our partners worldwide for their commitment and support.

This is a superb team success.”A phenomenal result, Black Tower is Germany’s best selling wine, globally, and in addition to its position as the outright top selling German wine brand in the UK, it is also the best selling German wine brand in Brazil, Canada, Korea and Sweden. It is also one of the leading German wine brands in Finland and Norway, and is a modern cult brand among younger wine consumers in each of the brand’s key export markets.“China is another market where our work to develop and our brands is making very promising headway. We are already receiving strong contracts for both of our Black Tower and Kendermanns brands, as these wines meet this market’s needs.”Modern style Black Tower has a range of six wine styles, including its latest launch this spring, Black Tower FIZZ.

Black Tower Rivaner, packed in the internationally established, iconic black bottle is the brand’s best selling wine, globally. Produced from the Müller-Thurgau grape varietal from selected growers in the Rheinhessen area, consumers worldwide love its clean, full fruit flavour coupled with well balanced acidity and a harmonious texture. “No other producer in the world is selling this single varietal internationally, in such volumes,” says Nik Schritz. “It is a unique proposition to consumers. This, together with our contemporary styled Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Rosé, Dornfelder Pinot Noir and new single serve Black Tower FIZZ are driving sales even further, and gaining younger wine consumers in new markets for us.”In the UK, Black Tower’s largest export market, Black Tower Pinot Grigio which was launched just three years ago and Black Tower Rosé, launched shortly before, are rivalling the No. 1 top spot occupied by Black Tower Rivaner as the most popular styles in the range.Latest AC Nielsen Mat 26 January 2008 research shows UK off trade sales of Black Tower, the UK’s clear, no.1 best selling German wine brand up a further 22% in volume.

The top selling German white wine and rosé brand, Black Tower’s ranking in total UK off trade sales shows Black Tower is now the UK consumer’s No. 8 most popular Pinot Grigio wine brand, No. 12 overall most popular White Wine brand and No. 12 Rosé Wine brand (up from No. 17 in 2006.) Total UK off sales wine brands (source The Nielsen Company,) now shows Black Tower has jumped a further two places to become the UK’s overall No 21 best selling wine brand, up from 23rd ranking the previous year.“Globally, our consumers are looking for contemporary styled wines that over deliver in terms of quality versus price point. Black Tower has stimulated its brand loyalists to increase their wine repertoire and attracted a generation of new consumers, many of whom are new to German wines, but keen to explore new tastes, and critically, keen to buy a brand which meets their lifestyle needs, aspirations and palate preferences,” adds Nik Schritz.
