On April 8th Distribution General Manager Dave Higgs and Distribution Manager Pete James embarked on a four-day bike ride from Bexley Heath in London to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, covering an average of 75 miles per day through towns and countryside.

Dave said: “I started cycling seriously two years ago and am always looking for new challenges. Last year Pete and I raised £1,300 by doing a 100-mile charity ride, but this year we wanted to push ourselves further.

“I chose to support Bowel Cancer UK as my wife is a colorectal specialist nurse.”

Pete commented: “The hardest part of the cycle was battling the wind for two days across open countryside. To prepare I carried out a number of rides in advance of the event. The main training for me was two weeks before, when I did four days of back-to-back bike rides, in excess of 50 miles each.

“Then, the week before I reduced the training right down to a couple of 20-mile rides.”

To date the duo have raised more than £7,100 for Bowel Cancer UK, surpassing their initial target of £3,000 by an impressive £4,100.

Dave added: “We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts with such generous donations. Once the remaining sponsorship money has been collected we may even reach £7,500.”

When asked about plans for any future cycling challenges Pete said: “I have nothing planned at the moment but will no doubt enter something again when the opportunity arises, perhaps a bit longer with even more miles!”
