Carabao Energy Drinks announced today that it has moved its production base from Refresco in The Netherlands to Thailand – from where the company originates.
Vertical integration is one of the cornerstones of Carabao’s global strategy, though the valued partnership with Refresco will continue to support other international markets. Moving production to Carabao’s facility in Thailand is expected to yield additional benefits such as increased supply chain flexibility and improved integration with the world class Thai R&D product development team.
David Butcher, MD at Carabao UK&I, said: “Refresco have been a fantastic partner to us in the UK for the last three years and helped us get to where we are today. We have no doubt they’ll continue to be invaluable to our other international markets. However, we are very excited to start making use of our newly-built state-of-the-art facility in Thailand, which will allow us to take our brilliant products to the next level.”
The factory is located on the outskirts of Bangkok, in a convenient location for product transportation, and has been newly purpose built for the production of Carabao Energy Drink products, with the capacity to produce more than 1.5billion cans each year. These state-of-the-art facilities are another proof point of Carabao’s global ambitions – alongside the £50m+ UK investment to date in marketing.
There is no change to any of the great-tasting recipes, which will continue to contain 60% less sugar than competitors such as Red Bull and Monster. This will come as great news to retailers and customers who stock Carabao and to their many shoppers who love these great-tasting, lower sugar energy drinks.
With this in mind, Carabao is pleased to announce a new flavour hitting the shelf in Spring 2020. This comes after the successful launch of Mandarin Orange in 2018 to the company’s diverse product range and will be amongst the first cans manufactured in the new production facility.
David Butcher, MD at Carabao UK&I, continues: “We know our drinks taste amazing, and consumers agree – with twice as many preferring the taste of Carabao Green Apple over Red Bull in blind taste tests. This has given us the confidence to push ahead with our vertical integration plans as one part of our hugely exciting 2020 plans, which also include a new flavour launch, building on our massive football sponsorship deals with the EFL, the Carabao Cup and Chelsea FC and investing with our brilliant customers! 2020 is going to be our biggest year yet and we cannot wait to help customers across the UK drive incremental category sales.”
