Household cleaning sales are sparkling as UK distributor Cotswold Fayre is reporting a 36% uplift in sales of cleaning products in convenience stores in Q2 versus Q1 of 2020.
With Covid-19 never far from consumers’ thoughts, demand for cleaning products continues to grow across the globe, with an increased focus on hygiene and need to disinfect household surfaces*.
Cotswold Fayre recently bolstered its non-food range with two new environmentally friendly cleaning household brands introduced in January 2020 – Ecozone and BIO-D.
Paul Hargreaves, chief executive at Cotswold Fayre says: “Consumers are undoubtedly conscious of purchasing more sustainable products, and too much plastic, with many looking for alternative brands and products to reflect this concern. We’ve seen bigger brands looking to refine their environmental credentials, for example offering refills for larger single use plastic bottles, and brands like Method and Ecover are leading the charge in grocery.
“As a first for us at Cotswold Fayre, we’re pleased to be offering a range of natural household cleaning products to all retailers, that are good for the environment… and cleaning too!”
As of June 2020, the top five selling household cleaning lines in convenience are:
1. Ecozone – Anti Bacterial Multi Surface Wipes – 8 x 240g
2. Bio D – All Purpose Spray 500ml – 12 x 500ml
3. Ecozone – Washing Up Liquid Sensitive – 12 x 500ml
4. Bio D – Grapefruit washing up liquid – 12 x 750ml
5. Ecozone – 3 in 1 Bathroom Cleaner Spray – 6 x 500ml
The Ecozone range boasts something for everyone with ecoballs, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, floor cleaner, oven cleaning gel, toilet cleaner, multi surface spray, and wipes, kitchen, bathroom and window & glass cleaners – offering consumers powerful products that work, while being affordable and environmentally sustainable. Better still the company also uses old packaging parts to form new packaging and uses recyclable material and bottles.
Bo Dinnewell, UK & international accounts manager at Ecozone, says: “Due to Covid-19, there has been an upturn in sales within both the convenience store and health food store sector, as these stores have remained open throughout this uncertain period. People have been relying more and more on convenience stores, choosing to shop locally due to large queues evident at supermarkets. We expect this trend to continue way after the coronavirus has gone, and people have acclimatised to this way of purchasing.”
The Bio-D range also offers customers products made from ethically sourced natural ingredients without a premium price. The range includes washing up liquid, all-purpose sprays, laundry liquid and conditioner, bathroom and toilet cleaners, and handwash – with all packaging made from 100% UK recycled material, and it’s biodegradable too.
Emily Gallagher, sales manager at Bio D says: “This year we have seen a dramatic shift in customer hygiene habits with a growing awareness of how bacteria and viruses can spread. Following this, and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, we have seen a huge increase in sales of our hand washes and sanitising products in convenience. Our products are perfectly placed for those doing a local top-up shop, or as an impulse purchase when browsing for other goods.”
In 2015, Cotswold Fayre became a B Corporation, a certification which recognises businesses which are using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
