General Mills has today announced it has signed up to the Race at Work Charter, which is designed to foster a public commitment to improving the outcomes of BAME employees in the workplace.
By signing the charter, General Mills pledges to take practical steps to tackle the barriers that people of ethnic minorities face in recruitment and progression and to improve diversity within the company.
General Mills is already actively working towards the charters’ five key areas of focus, including appointing an Executive Sponsor for race, making equality in the workplace the responsibility of all leaders and managers, and capturing ethnicity data to demonstrate progress.
Ben Pearman, Managing Director, General Mills Northern Europe, said: “At General Mills, we are committed to building a leading culture of inclusion and belonging. Our success is rooted in deeply understanding the lives of our increasingly diverse consumers – that’s only possible through building a diverse workforce that reflects those consumers and embraces the diversity of British society today. We’re committed to making tangible changes that will make a difference, and the Race at Work Charter is our public commitment to continue the hugely important work we are doing to enable race equality.”
