Welcome to the January/ February Wholesale Manager. It’s the middle of February: the mornings are lighter, and the days are longer. Soon it’ll be spring. Here at Wholesale Manager Towers, our big news is that from now on we’re publishing Britain’s only tabloid format magazine for the delivered wholesale and cash ‘n’ carry industry six times a year, instead of once a quarter.

chazIn this issue we’ve got the latest news from the industry and the suppliers. We also have features on Healthy Options, Big Night In and The Warehouse. As consumers take a greater interest in healthy living, Healthy Options takes in the latest food and drink products offering ‘Low/No’ alternatives in terms of reduced contents of fat, salt, sugar, alcohol, plus ‘free from’ alternatives helping avoid particular ingredients.

Whatever the weather’s doing, it’s the perfect time for your independent retailer customers to highlight the products they have for a Big Night In, to beat the blues and bring in extra sales! Our feature looks at treats for sharing: food, drinks, snacks, sweets, chocolate and other goodies, including the lads’ favourites, microwaveable snacks. There are plenty of excuses for a party in 2014, and to encourage the independent retailers you serve to get into the mood, with a full range of drinks and snacks. The Eurovision Song contest –prompt for plenty of fancy dress parties – is in Copenhagen on Saturday 10th May. And the FIFA World Cup 2014 starts in Manaus, Brazil on Thursday June 12 and ends on Sunday 13 July. Before that, Tuesday March 4th is Pancake Day, so why not have a Mardi Gras carnival in your cash ‘n’ carry, with staff in fancy dress!

Our latest feature on The Warehouse looks at the latest news in material handling equipment, storage solutions and warehouse IT, all essentials for the smooth running of every cash ‘n’ carry and delivered wholesaler. Speaking of the warehouse, business life would be very different without pallets. On our front page, last year FHG IPP Logipal, the UK & Ireland’s second largest pooling supplier and leading high quality pallet pooling specialist, achieved its ninth syear of double-digit growth since its foundation in 2005. 2013 saw them move to larger premises, prompted by a doubling in business size since 2009, and the launch of a new range of reusable box solutions, the FHG Bulk Box, FHG High Protection Box plus handling and Packaging accessories.

We’ll be back in April with our next issue. See you soon!
