SPAR UK has fought off a huge wave of entries throughout this year, with its two wins and highly commended reward last night at the Quality Food & Drink Awards taking its total 2014 wins to 101!

Spar-Gin-70cl

At the Quality Food & Drink awards held at the Grosvenor Hotel last night, SPAR’s BBQ Ribs in Glaze (RRP £4.20) won in the Fresh Meat, Game and Poultry category , while SPAR’s Special Dry London Gin (RRP £11.49 for 70cl) won under Spirits: Gin. SPAR’s South African Reserve Chenin Blanc 2013 was Highly Commended in the White Wine up to £6 sector.

SPAR’s three own label products were up against some of the finest food and drink products that are available in UK supermarkets today.

Judges were absolutely enamored with the SPAR BBQ ribs, saying that the meat “pulls away nicely and is very moist – excellent texture, well-seasoned,” and the “superb” complementary sauce “works perfectly”.

As far as the judges were concerned, SPAR’s London Gin ticks all the boxes saying it was “actually very pleasant to drink on its own even though it’s designed for mixing.” Very good value for money and with interesting packaging to boot, it comes in a bottle that a judge described as “quirkier than gins of a similar price. This is a simply marvelous product,” they commented.

Susan Darbyshire, SPAR UK Brand Director said: “This is our first Quality Food award success and we are absolutely thrilled with the result! As these wins show, SPAR own label products offer customers great quality at competitive prices, providing a credible alternative to leading brands.

“Good value and great quality are two fundamental deciders for customers and the range is constantly monitored and checked against major supermarkets to make sure SPAR Brand remains competitive,” she said.
