As part of its ongoing 60th anniversary fundraising efforts, Sterling Supergroup has celebrated a standout team achievement, with members of the Sterling Community successfully completing the National Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend (30th-31st May).

Taking on extreme terrain, unpredictable weather and a demanding schedule, the team completed the challenge in an impressive 22 hours and 55 minutes, well within the 24-hour target and demonstrating the strength of collaboration and determination across the team.

Participants included Daniel Larkin and Kerry Clements from Sterling Head Office, Chairman Nigel Chadd, Shelley Day, Yan Whitechurch and Mike Crowhurst of J&R Foodservice, Mark Hunter-Pickles of Debriar, Paul Northeast of Strachans Ltd, Gary Winstanley of Leverbrook Export Ltd, and Tom Plews of East Kent Foods.

The challenge began at 4:50am on Saturday with the ascent of Ben Nevis, where the team faced tough terrain, a demanding climb and snow at the summit, rewarded by spectacular views at the top.

Reflecting on the experience, Daniel Larkin, CCO of Sterling Supergroup, said:

“This was definitely the hardest physical and mental challenge of my life, but it was amazing to find out just how far I can push myself when required. Thank you for all of the donations and messages of support, they really helped me throughout the Three Peaks Challenge.”

Due to unexpected road closures, the group were unable to attempt Scafell Pike. Instead, they adapted their route and took on Whernside, the highest peak in Yorkshire, arriving on schedule at 5:00pm. With improved weather conditions, the team were once again rewarded with outstanding views.

After a brief rest during the coach journey, the team began their final ascent of Snowdon at 11:55pm. Battling darkness, strong winds and heavy horizontal rain, this proved to be the most difficult stage of the challenge, with only head torches lighting the way.

Paul Northeast of Strachans Ltd said:

“I have to admit that the Three Peaks Challenge was one of the most challenging things I have ever undertaken. It really did take everything I had to keep going, particularly on Snowdon, the last mountain, when it was torrential rain for the whole time. Having said that, it was a fantastic experience, and it was great to undertake the challenge with such a strong team. I’m so pleased I took part and feel a real sense of achievement, particularly in the time we managed.”

Despite the conditions, the group pushed through fatigue to complete the challenge at 3:45am, marking a significant achievement for everyone involved.

Throughout the challenge, the support shown between team members was inspiring, reinforcing the strength of the Sterling Community and the value of working together to achieve more. Members followed the team’s progress over the weekend, sharing messages of encouragement, while other followers continued to donate in support of the challenge.

Nigel Chadd, Chairman of Sterling Supergroup, added:

“The challenge was immense, the determination of the team awesome, and the money raised fantastic. I’m incredibly proud to be Chairman of Sterling and part of this team.”

The fundraising total has now surpassed 63% of Sterling’s £60,000 target, with donations continuing to grow as the group drives forward its 60th anniversary fundraising campaign. With further activities planned during the 60th Annual Conference and Exhibition in Hampshire this September, Sterling remains firmly focused on reaching its goal in support of its three chosen charities: Hospitality Action, Action Against Hunger, and FoodCycle.

Sterling would also like to thank its sponsors and supporters, whose valued contributions have helped make the challenge possible and continue to drive the group’s fundraising efforts.

With more activity planned throughout the year, Sterling is encouraging continued support to help reach its £60,000 target. Donations can still be made here: https://gvwhl.com/L7IN5 or by scanning the QR code.
