Sugro UK’s face to face Annual Trade Show Exhibition returned after a three-year break caused by the pandemic. The Trade Show took place in the vibrant city of Glasgow across three very impactful days.

With over 200 attendees, it was a great opportunity for both Members and Suppliers to network, build relationships and do business. The Trade Show was followed by the Conference, with some fantastic speakers presenting on the day, as well as Supplier and Member awards ceremony where wholesalers and suppliers were recognised for their hard work.

O’Reilly’s Wholesale was named as the winner in the Retail Member of the Year awards category, the Environmental & Sustainability Award was won by Taylor Wholesale, the Digital Innovation Award was won by The Soft Drinks Company, the Specialist Wholesale Award was won by Rayburn Wholesale, the Community Champion Award went to Northern Confectioners whilst E-Natural took the Group Rising Star Award.

In the supplier awards, Alex McMillan, Suntory Beverage and Food GB & I won the Supplier of the Year Award, Fred Marshall, Nestle won Product of the Year Award for the launch of Kit Kat Zebra and Simon Murray, PepsiCo took Retail Club Supplier of the Year Award.

Alex McMillan, Suntory Beverage and Food GB said: “A fantastic Trade Show and Conference held by Sugro in Glasgow, the first face to face Trade Show since 2019, which saw a huge turnout with a great mix of Members and Suppliers. In true Sugro style there was a real balanced mix of business and pleasure, allowing us a fantastic opportunity to engage and network with everyone on both a personal and business level. Sugro and PG Events delivered a seamless and fun filled agenda, which a lot of time and effort is taken to make these events run so smoothly. The phrase ‘family feel’ was ever present, with both Suppliers and Members bringing their families across the 2 days which was brilliant to see and once more reinforces how unique Sugro are.

Derek O’Reilly, O’Reilly’s Wholesale commented: “This year, Sugro May Trade Show 2022 and AGM was live or should I say alive. Everyone attending as opposed to Zoom or Teams conference made such a difference and it was brilliant to catch up and discuss things face to face. All round this event you could feel the buzz from Members and Suppliers that Sugro was doing business as usual and doing it well!”

The Sugro group has had 16 consecutive years of growth with the Group year to date growth of +19% year on year (January – April 2022 versus the same period in 2021). This is on the back of a very successful 2021 with the Group finishing 2021 in growth of +12% year on year (2021 turnover was +30% versus 2019 which was the last full pre-pandemic year).

Yulia Petitt, Sugro Head of Commercial and Marketing commented: “We received fantastic feedback from our Members and Suppliers. We were exceptionally pleased with a high level of attendance and participation where all attendees had many opportunities to interact, network and continue to drive the business forward by capitalising on key elements of Sugro’s commercial strategy which is focussed on further digitalisation & technology, diversification into grocery, non-food and food service and business development. The performance of the Group has been exceptional over the past few years, and with some substantial multimillion turnover business done on the day of the show, I believe that the Group is set for another successful year of double-digit growth. I would like to thank all Members and Suppliers for their continuous support and participation.”
