Team of foodservice experts announces new client in one of the fastest growing drinks markets

Zest Food Partners and TeaJoy announce a new partnership to bring bubble tea to the masses!

Bubble tea (or Boba tea) is a joyful, refreshing tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan in the 1980’s. Served cold or warm, the flavoured fruit or milk tea is served with chewy tapioca balls or fruity popping boba in a transparent cup with a thick straw that’s big enough to suck them up.

The bubble tea trend took hold in the UK in 2011 and was an instant hit. Now a worldwide phenomenon, bubble tea bars are branching out in most large towns, cities, universities, and shopping centres and are opening at a rapid pace!

London restaurant owner Ning Ma started serving bubble tea in her Asian street food restaurant chain during the pandemic and soon realised that not only did it require a lot of storage space, but the product also took a long time to prepare; mainly brewing the teas and cooking the Tapioca.

In 2021 Ning launched her own bubble tea concept where a real fruit-based syrup is infused with Jasmine Tea. That, with just water, ice, and the boba’s enabled her to create a Bubble Tea in less than 1 minute!

Ning Ma, Founder, TeaJoy said, “I love this fun drink so much and want to share the joy of bubble tea with everyone! The bubble tea market is set to see huge growth over the coming years and my vision is for it to be accessible everywhere and not a specialist drink which people have to travel for.”

The UK bubble tea market is set to grow at 8.5% CAGR over the next 10 years. This represents a 50% growth in the size of the market over the next 5 years and a 225% growth over the next decade*.

Zest Food Partners will be working with TeaJoy to drive their strategy and will target key end users, including coffee shops, cafés, casual dining restaurants, pubs, bars, QSR’s and leisure venues.

Claire Williams, Marketing Director, Zest Food Partners said, “Bubble tea is a fun and exciting new drink that is growing in popularity, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer the TeaJoy concept to our customers and help them keep popping!”

“Consumers are curious about new trends, enthusiastic to try new things and with customisation options available, consumers can create their own drinks that are highly Instagrammable and Tiktok-friendly! Perfect for mocktails, cocktails or just a stand-a-lone bubble tea, the TeaJoy concept is simple, versatile and with a 70% margin, offers a very profitable opportunity for foodservice operators.”

Ning Ma, Founder, TeaJoy added, “We have huge aspirations to grow the TeaJoy brand and bubble tea category and we are delighted to be working with Zest to unlock the full potential. The team have a lot of experience, great knowledge of the market, and a fantastic network.”
