frontWhile Team GB collects the Olympic medals, our leading wholesalers have also been busy racking up the honours. In our news pages Bidvest Foodservice has been awarded Best Delivered Wholesaler and named Best Wholesaler Telesales Staff at the recent him! Wholesale Awards. Caterforce, the foodservice buying group, recently marked its 25th anniversary with a charity gala at London’s Natural History Museum, fundraising for FoodShare.

Congratulations to both companies.

To help your business turn in a champion performance, in this issue we have special features on Vaping, World Foods and the Warehouse. If you haven’t done so yet, you can brush up on the new EUTPD2 regulations in our Vaping feature. Research shows e-cigarette usage grew 24% in 2015, with 2.6 million adults now using them in the UK. Canadean’s latest research suggests fun and flavour experimentation will pave the way for e-cigarettes to grow.

The World Food category is endlessly shifting and changing, according to Wing Yip’s recent report, giving wholesalers a wealth of opportunities to build niche markets. Meanwhile Caribbean food goes from strength to strength in the UK, with leading supplier Grace Foods rolling out a raft of trade and consumer initiatives to make this month’s Caribbean Food Week the biggest yet.

The height of summer is the ideal time for cash and carry depots and delivered wholesalers to think about getting their warehouses in order before autumn comes. The warehouse is the heart of these businesses, keeping going all year round and needs to be maintained in good shape.

Also in this issue, successful wholesale businesses can evolve over time in all manner of exciting ways. As reported on page 4, third generation family business Troy Foods has invested £2 million in a new distribution hub. Troy began in the 1920s as a vegetable wholesaler then moved in the 1980s into supplying prepared vegetables for ready meals and retail packs in supermarkets. In recent years they have diversified into added value lines.

Finally, the guest star in this issue’s Quote Unquote column (page 23) is Pauline Warren, Marketing Manager at Republic Technologies, who reveals her secret ambition is to run a B&B in Italy. If you have a secret ambition you’d like to share with us in this popular feature, get in touch.
