Wholesale Manager – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

As I’ve only recently joined the charity, everything is new and exciting. The thing that delights me the most is hearing how we help people in need and make a real difference to their lives.

Helen Kershaw, Marketing Communications Manager, GroceryAid

WM – Who’s inspired you most in your career?

My boss when I worked at Bongrain UK, Michel Duleu Burre. He‘s a great marketer and taught me so much, including not to be afraid of making mistakes, to learn from them and grow.

WM – If you were an item in a cash ‘n’ carry, what would you be?

An iced bun but absolutely no idea why.

WM – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

I accepted one job when I knew I wasn’t really interested in the product. I thought it wouldn’t matter but it did, you have to have a passion for what you do.

WM – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?

I once helped herd some sheep down the Champs Elysees in Paris for a reception in the British Embassy Garden. We got very funny looks from passers by.

WM – Who or what makes you laugh?

My friends, when we get together for a weekend I just love the banter.

WM – Do you have any hidden talents?

Not really hidden but I do ride a motorbike.

WM –Who would be your favourite party guest?

Eddie Izzard.

WM –What is the greatest luxury in your life?

A slow Sunday breakfast with my husband and then a walk with our dog.

WM –What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

White chocolate.

WM – Do you have any secret ambitions?

If I tell you it won’t be secret.

WM –What’s your dream holiday destination?

Anywhere on a motorbike, it’s just a great way to travel.

WM –What are your three favourite movies of all time?

Pride & Prejudice, Pretty Woman and Schindlers List.

WM –What is your favourite book of all time?

It’s a play, Macbeth. My friend and I have seen about 20 different productions, I love seeing the different interpretations.

WM – What’s your favourite pastime?

My happy place is by the sea so probably walking my dog on the beach.

WM – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

We’d follow the Moto GP bike racing around the world watching every race for a whole season.

WM – What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into this industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

Definitely do it, as a marketer it doesn’t get better than FMCG.
